Initially starting in 1990, the Northland Disabilities Resource Centre Trust was formed by a small group of people with lived experience of disability who had identified the lack of readily available information about disability services in Northland.

The organisation operated as a DIAS (Disability Information and Advisory Service), but other services were added as the need was identified.

NorthAble cover Te Tai Tokerau with varied services helping 0–65-Year-olds such as our Needs Assessments and Service Coordination (NASC) and LYNKZ Participation Programme where we help people living with an eligible disability to support, explore their options and goals. NorthAble also has Equipment Plus who are Northland’s largest supplier of equipment and products to support people who may have a temporary or permanent impairment.

We also have our newer creations such as the Āhei Internship program, Paerata Service and our newest added service which is the School Attendance Service. Lastly, we have our Whangārei Budgeting Service has been guiding anyone that needs help in controlling their finances and successfully manage their own money.

All these services combine here at NorthAble as we aim to be a nationally recognised leader working alongside people with disabilities and those that experience diverse challenges (physical, emotional, cognitive) to live their best lives.
